Google is picture deforestation

To achieve this interactive map , Google has compiled millions of satellite images stored on more than 40 years by the American Geological Institute .
It monitors the disappearance of trees worldwide , with frequent updates : pink , forest areas lost. Blue , won the zones ( far fewer ) .
And because the Earth has lost no less than 2.3 million km2 of forest between 2000 and 2012 , according to information gathered through this project will occupy about twenty people for 3 years, and will cost about 25 million dollars.
A tool for policy makers
The information is accessible to all, but they are particularly for policy makers as well as companies that want buy land from deforestation .
Andrew Steer, Director General of the World Resources Institute, which played an important role in the creation of this database, gives the following example : " If the Indonesian President has passed good laws for the protection of forests, it was actually very difficult for him to know exactly what was happening in real time.
